This overland journey to Tibet, begins from Kathmandu, from there, we proceed to Kodari on the Nepal / Tibet border by bus. From Kodari, we change to a convoy of four wheel drives.
On the way to Lhasa, capital of Tibet, we go by the cities of Zhangmu, Nyalam, Tingri, Xeger, Xigatse and Gyantse before entering Lhasa itself. This 5 day drive to Lhasa covers around 1000 km. This journey offers truly spectacular views of the Himalayas, high mountain passes, ancient monasteries and fortresses. We also come into contact with a people and culture from a bygone era. The last days in the mystical Tibetan capital of Lhasa takes you to the Potala Palace, the former abode of The Dalai Lama. We visit Norbulingka and The Jhokhang temple in Barkhor square. The Barkhor square and Jhokhang temple is to the Buddhist and Tibetan people what, St. Peter’s square and St Peter’s Basilica is to the Christians; in short it is a very sacred place of pilgrimage.
The flight back to Kathmandu is a breathtaking mountain flight over the eastern Himalayan range.
